Foundation
Service for Sight has been at the heart of Delta Gamma’s philanthropic mission since 1936. I am shown here with Kate, a kindergarten student at one of the schools that is supported by Delta Gamma. Kate’s school is one of four schools begun by Delta Gammas for children who are blind or visually impaired. In this picture she was eager to tell me about the cane she uses to deftly move about. She and her schoolmates have the wonderful start in life; one created especially for them.
Grants to these four schools and 51 other organizations which share and further our mission have totaled more than $3.15 million since the Foundation’s incorporation in 1951. Through a labor of love, our collegians and alumnae have served these organizations with precious service hours. In the past twenty years, 1.5 million hours have been logged for Service for Sight!
Our scholarship program has expanded dramatically. More than $250,000 was granted to our worthy Delta Gamma scholars this year. The Anchor Grant Program continues to provide assistance for our members in crisis. Delta Gamma Lectureships in Values and Ethics are now on 17 campuses and at Convention. The Fraternity’s PRO (Professional Resource Personnel) and other such programs are providing valuable information to our members. Our Leadership programs help sharpen the skills of Delta Gammas who will lead our nation and Fraternity into the future.
We can be proud to be the most pro-active Foundation in the Greek world. Our success is due to our members’ lifetime commitment to Delta Gamma. The motto “Do Good,” penned by our Founders before the letters Delta Gamma were even chosen, is alive and well in the 21st century.
